Should I even bother to file a claim?
Some times it is better not to file a claim as it could end up costing you more money and time. Here are a few things to consider when thinking about filing.
The timeless quote of Mark Twain come to mind "Principles cost money"
- Do you have the time, patience and effort necessary to prepare, file and prosecute your claim?
- Does the person whom you would bring the case against, have enough money to pay the judgment if you win?
- Is the claim amount so small that it would cost more money to peruse the case than you would reclaim?
- Does the person you would issue a claim against, have a claim against you?
- Is the person you would issue a claim against a relative, friend or neighbor?
- Are you confident enough to prosecute your claim by yourself without an attorney?
